This past year has found me experimenting with all types of new things in my photography. As I scroll through my Flickr stream, my Instagram feed, and all the photos on my computer, I notice how much self-portraiture has become a major theme in my creative work. This was not planned per se, but seems to have evolved as I’ve been working on my first 365 project. I know for some of you out there, self-portraits are waaaaaaaay out of your comfort zone. And I understand that. I really do. As photographers, most of us feel most comfortable behind the lens, not out in front. But I’ve learned that oh-so-much goodness can come from being brave and delving into the work of self-portraits. And, I’ve learned that self-portraits are often MUCH easier to take with an iPhone or other mobile phone as compared to our “big girl cameras.” Here are some of my recent self-portraits that I’ve taken with my iPhone.
I love how they capture a season…
Here are some mobile self-portraits from our Muses: Deb, Christy, Lindsey, Jenny, Kirstin, and Holly…
And these awesome selfies are from some of YOU in our Mobile Monday Flickr pool…
1. Tea. Peppermint. Taken daily 🙂, 2. Into the Blue, 3. strong inside but you don’t know it, 4. “You never know how you look through other people’s eyes. ”, 5. {day 236} so I wait for you like a lonely house till you will see me again and live in me.till then my windows ache, 6. something blue
I strongly encourage you to try taking some self-portraits. Even if you never share them, upload them to Instagram or Flickr, or show them to a soul, take some. Play. See yourself differently. I promise it will be worth it.

Oh Meghan, your self portraits are so emotional and so inspiring. Thank you!
I’m glad you are diving into shooting them yourself, Jenny!
Meghan, the self portraits you’ve been doing for your 365 lately, including these with your phone, are so inspiring! I need to shoot some more myself.
Thanks, Deb. I’ve learned so much by doing them!!
Wonderful selfies!!! I took the nowyou course last summer and I got sooo much out of it!!!! You are so very right!!!
Meghan your self portraits are truly inspiring. I too believe there is much we can learn about ourselves when we brave the other side of the camera. Thank you for the artistic inspiration!
Nice pics!
You take the most haunting self portraits, Meghan. Inspirational!
How brave, the self portrait is. I hadn’t thought of it as a learning too. Thank you, very inspirational.
Self portraits are free therapy for me. I have found myself being much more tender with myself since I first started doing them two years ago. Thanks for including mine here, Meghan. Yours? Are divine.
