Since Jenny posted our November theme of black and white, I’ve noticed how much my eye and my lens naturally gravitate toward color. It’s been an interesting observation to make regarding my photography and what I tend to shoot. Given my one little word for 2012, I’m reveling in the practice of focusing more on desaturated images. Here’s a recent photo I took while traveling and staying in the comforts of a king bed. The morning light was still a bit dark and the mood seemed right for a black and white photograph.

As I have been looking through the photos that our community (YOU!) is sharing in the Flickr pool, my breath has been taken away with the stunning images. From gorgeous photos of kids…

1. Four – 23/365, 2. Still

to our dear pets…

1. Hetty has had a busy day, 2. What’s Cute & Soft and BW All Over?

to the simplicity of nature…

1. ‘Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory’, 2. Disembodied Bloom

Seeing these photos and snippets of life in black and white are really giving me a new perspective. I’m seeing facial features, catch light in eyes, line, and texture in a completely different way.

What about you? What have you noticed about black and white photography?
