I’ve been inspired by so many things in the last week. So I thought I’d share some of my current inspirations with you here.

      • In this exquisite film a man works through a personal tragedy by learning how to make old-school collodian tintypes. I can see it’s only a matter of time before I want give this a try too.American Tintype from Matt Morris Films on Vimeo.
      • I’ve been slowing down by looking at Sourced Cities, a city guide for the iPhone and iPad. The first issue covers San Francisco, which is making me want to go back there even more than I did before. I can’t wait to see which city they do next! Meanwhile, a new magazine called The Simple Things is making me want to nest at home with its blend of crafts, cookery and gorgeous photography. Susannah Conway, their resident photographer, offers monthly tips on how to photograph the everyday.
      • To get in the mood for Christmas I’ve been listening to people’s seasonal playlists on 8tracks. I know this social music app has been around for a while, but I love the way I can put it on my computer and iPhone, picking and choosing a mix as my mood changes. Here’s my summer beach mix, if you want to imagine driving along the winding English roads to a stony beach. I so love  being able to add my own image as the “album cover” for each mix too!
      • I’ve been reading Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling which is an amazing resource for anyone interested in food photography. There are chapters on lighting, composition, setting up and styling with special pro tips too. This book is essential for all you food photographers.
      • I’ve been dipping into a David duChemin book, Photographically Speaking, and a book on the history of photography, The Photograph,  by Graham Clark.
      • I’m looking forward to receiving my copy of On the Table, a limited-edition book. I love that all these pictures are taken on Azzari‘s kitchen table and all in film too.
      • I enjoyed watching this video in which renowned war photographer Don McCullin has a go at digital photography for the first time, aged 77, and enjoys it! It was fascinating to hear his perspective on digital photography and to see how it opened a new world for him.
      • And I’ve ventured into new territory as well, adding words to my pictures for the first time! I’m using a wonderful new app called Over.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who are celebrating it!
