I’m just going to come clean here. I have been low on photo inspiration this past week. You see, I am a colour girl. Much of the time it’s colour that catches my eye and motivates me to take the shot. Last week I was in Mexico, surrounded by gorgeous colour and light. Sadly, this week I am home and all I am seeing is grey, grey, and more grey. Fortunately, when I seek inspiration the Mortal Muses Flickr pools always deliver. A quick peruse through the Everyday Beauty pool led me to some images that not only did not suffer from a lack of colour, they celebrated it.

These images inspired me to get out and shoot with black and white in mind. Instead of colour, I looked for graphics, for repetition and for interesting shapes and light reflections — things that would translate well to black and white. I have to say that it was a bit of a challenge. My eye is even more trained than I thought to look for colour. I wasn’t happy with everything I shot but I did find some beauty in the everyday of my city, even in the grey.

If you feel discouraged
That there’s a lack of color here
Please don’t worry lover
It’s really bursting at the seams
Absorbing everything
The spectrum’s A to Z
