Like Lindsey, I’ve recently been experimenting with layering images on my phone:
Since Hipstamatic and the Image Blender App aren’t available to iPhone sceptics like myself, I’m always on the lookout for Android alternatives. Here is a quick rundown of my workflow for the top left image above – as you will see, there are some interesting Android apps out there.
These are the two original images I started with. They have been cropped square, but are otherwise unedited.
I then opened the first image in an app called LittlePhoto. This app is a little fiddly, but great fun once you get the hang of it. Selecting Tools –> MultiExpo, I then added the other photo as a layer on top and saved:
The best app I know for textures is called MagicHour. I opened the blended image in MagicHour and selected the Sepia preset. And the brilliant thing about MagicHour is that by pressing ‘Recreate’ after selecting a preset, you can edit absolutely everything about the image – such as the texture.
Finally I converted the image to black and white in Instagram before posting:
Browsing the Mobile Monday Pool, I see I’m not the only one to experiment with blendings, as you can see from these beauties by michmutters and Celina Wyss.
— Speaking of Instagram, we are currently making some changes to our presence over there. We still want you to share our images with us, but our tag from now on will be #mortalmuses.
Happy Mobile Monday from Jenny.
excellent! love how you have created these pictures
These are just too cool, great to see!
So glad to see Android has some options for blending as well. Beautiful images! Thanks so much for sharing my self portrait.
Wow Jenny! You’ve created some incredible work! Awesome! Love the hots you’ve featured too!
How brilliant are these, Jenny!
love how you put this together jenny!
really inspiring stuff!
iPhone Sceptic? I can assure you that iPhones are real, I’ve seen them myself!
another app for droid that can use to layers is pstouch. phenomenal controls. not for the “one touch” user so much as the photoshop style layering user.
Thanks for letting me know your opinion! I’ve not given it a try yet since it’s comparatively pricey and I’ve read some bad reviews of it, but maybe it’s time to give it a spin.
I understand the whole bad review thing. I use a Galaxy Note 2 so it’s pretty swift with the controls etc. I have no complaints to date. It was worth every penny to me.
I must admit that I really love the surprise effects that Little Camera creates.
Also, there is a small program called Instashake. I paid a fee for it and it’s rather slow and a little buggy even on my phone. Keep your eye on it though. It was just mentioned by a phenomenal instagram composite artist, @misvincent, on a great web panel discussion of mobile photographers/artists. I would imagine that that little shoutout could encourage the developer of Instashake to fix some things.
I posted a small composite this morning on my IG @rubbericons. It was one of my lucky creations with the app.
I use CameraStreak for blending – not after but while shoting you have 4 methods for blending: lighten, darken, screen, multiply. You can go on adding and blending as you want. The app has another finality, long exposure simulation but with a little trick you have a multylayer camera in high resoltion. Try @mikeletron on instagram or see my facebook
That sounds like a very interesting app; thanks for letting me know!
Thanks for sharing this!
I hope to make good captures and creative blends to share soon!
catch me on instagram @firekicks_
other stuff to blend photo on android:
–Double Photo Pro (lot of blends photoshop style)
–Multiple Exposure Creator (single blend -subtract) but various postions in the layering)
–dPicture (just simle blend, poor resolution but great random function)
–PicSay Pro (single basic blend but great masking function)
–Double exposure (very interesting still trying))
