Lightt is this very neat little video app for iPhone and iPad that I’ve been using quite frequently these days when I need to go beyond a photo to capture a series of moments. It takes 7 second videos that you can string together to make a longer video. It clips them down from 7 seconds to be a little quicker and look like an old timey movie the way it flashes through and sort of stutters the video. They call it “compressing time.

As Kirstin put it so perfectly when we were chatting about this great app, “This is the way memories feel…” People are doing awesome things with city scenes, they are creating events and situations just FOR Lightt-ing, it is an altogether inspiring place.

If you go to their blog, you can see a few examples of what the final results look like. The app is relatively new and they are often featuring their users videos and even stills on the app and on their facebook page as a way to support and encourage their users as well as make connections among the users. As you would expect, it is a social media app, complete the comments, likes, sharing to twitter, hashtags, etc.

My friend, Melly.

I know that of us muses, Kirstin is also on there. I hope you’ll join us, too!

What it does for me is gets me to look at things in a new way. I sometimes look at things now for opportunities to do a Lightt video, and it adds so much fun to the preparation of a meal, the mixing of a drink, anything that has a before and after or a process of steps to it. Looking at things through Lightt eyes reminds me that moving subjects can be a fun challenge to shoot when you get bored with the stationary ones! The event can standalone as something I want to “lightt” or be a “lightted” event AND show me just how generally photogenic something is, when I hadn’t yet considered pulling out my regular camera. I’m very excited to “lightt” my cross-country move this summer! What will you lightt?

Happy Lightting!
