When the temperatures start climbing here in New York City each year, masses of New Yorkers head for the scenic views, cool grass and shady trees of our beloved Central Park. Situated in the center of Manhattan, this 840 acre mecca for city dwellers and tourists alike opened in 1857 and is the most visited urban park in the United States, receiving 35 million visitors a year.

Every summer I try to head to Central Park at least once for a good old-fashioned urban picnic. This past weekend presented the perfect opportunity, with friends in town from Oregon we were able to gather a small group on Sunday afternoon. While I was hoping to get some good aerial picnic food photos, the infants and toddlers stepping and rolling all over the place made it pretty much impossible to set any food down on the blanket for more than 5 seconds!

But we had a lovely time relaxing, listening to live music and catching up with old friends.

A perfect way to kick off my shoes and start the summer off right!

We’re still celebrating our “Summer” theme until the end of this month! Do you have any summer rituals you’d like to share?

See you soon,
