I’ve been thinking about those photos. You know the ones. Those photos that aren’t your favorites. The ones that you like to some extent, but that you picked apart, noticing all the things you didn’t like about them. Those photos that got buried in your computer or in your stack of negatives or prints because they didn’t quite make the “A side” of the album. Yeah, those photos.
I’ve been thinking about those photos. And since I got to thinking about them, I started trolling through my Polaroid scans to see what really lurked there. You know what I found? I found that I liked those photos more than I originally thought.
I liked the vibrancy of this iris, even with the light leak across the top…
I liked the moodiness of these stars in black and white, even if it’s a bit under-exposed…
I liked the washed out, beat-up, old chairs, even with the not-so-spot-on framing…
I liked the nostalgic feel of these jars, even if they are blown out by the backlighting…
So yeah. I’ve been thinking about those photos. And I remembered that there are often some gems on the “B side” of the album.

They have a delicate charm and a quirkiness in some, especially the chairs. Sometimes it’s good to be not quite perfect.
Thank you. I’m embracing imperfection more and more each day.
Hi, I know exactly what you mean xx
I regularly look through my piles of rejects, and find a like them a little more each time x
Thanks, Nicola! I’d love to see some of your “rejects!”
I agree. Sometimes you find a jewel in the rough among the not so grade A shots.
Their flaws give them character and richness…I agree, these images are wonderful!
Thanks, Sherri!!
Perfection is boring, they say 🙂 Lovely shots. I can almost hear a soft, melancholic tune browsing through them. Nice!
Hmmm….yes! Thanks, Karin 🙂
I am definitely going to trawl through my archives from last year to see what’s hiding in there! Thank you for the inspiration, as ever. x
I have so many in the “b side” collection. The funny thing is that if i come back to them a week or so later, i wonder why i ever thought they were bad to begin with! Awesome post Meghan!
I sometimes think photos have to “marinate” for a little while. coming back to them late, after they have had time to rest always helps be review old work in a new light…
(these are all beautiful, btw)
Great idea for a post! You definitely made the right choice going back to some of your B sides–they are all gorgeous and worthy of an A side spot on your next album 🙂
What a great way of seeing your shots with fresh eyes.
