One of the many aspects of photography that I love is how this art form allows us to capture the full range of life. We can shoot everything from the vibrant colors of summer flowers to the sorrow and grief we feel inside. We can convey our gratitude for the food on our plate to the loneliness we experience when life feels dark. As I spent some time this weekend looking through my own recent iPhoneography as well as all the mobile photography you as members of our Mortal Muses community have shared in our Flickr group, I was overcome with this range of life, of emotions, of imagery.
And yet was reminded in my own photos of the beauty that surrounds each day…
Through photography, I become aware of how we must be alive to it ALL. We can’t choose to live in just the high range of emotions, only feeling the good, the joyous, the positive feelings. We cannot truly know joy and happiness if we aren’t also awake to our pain, our sorrow, our struggle. I’m grateful that my lens lets me capture that full range of life. It helps me remember the darkness so I can also see the light.
