Although it may seem trite to have chosen “gratitude” for our November theme here at Mortal Muses, I’m actually quite grateful I did. Thinking about giving thanks, appreciating all I have — both big and small — really does shift my awareness and attitude. Sometimes it is hard to step back and take a look at the big picture, especially when work deadlines loom, the flu catches us by surprise and knocks us off our game for a few days, or family obligations and other to-dos pile up. But having a prompt, a nudge, a gentle reminder to go wide with our view of ourselves and our lives can be a game changer in the way we feel.
When I step back, I can see how much I love flare and how it makes me smile…
I can revel in love being all around us if we just look for it…
I see the connections I’ve made and the beautiful relationships formed around a shared passion…
I notice that a sincere belief in the humanity of people exists when flowers are sold on the honour system…
And on days when my self-critic rears her ugly head and I start playing the comparison game, gratitude reminds me that I am on my path, the only path I need to be on…
What about you? What are you finding yourself grateful for this November?
For those interested, all photos were shot on Fuji 160S 35mm film using my Canon AE-1 camera.

Beautiful shots. Wonderful points of gratitude.
Thanks for the camera and film info.

Thank you so much! Do you shoot 35mm regularly?
Thank you for the beautiful words and images. It’s just the nudge we need to remind ourselves to be thankful.
Thanks, Amy. I know we all need a nudge sometimes. 🙂
i am. i am finding myself very grateful. i haven’t been writing and pointing out why i post the pics i do because it feels very “interior” and quiet. but being aware of all that i have to be grateful for is helping to tamp down the sadness and anger that has been surrounding me in my job. but i can come home to my love and i can baby my kitties and i can connect with my friends and i can relax with my cameras and i know that it will get better and i am eternally thankful.
Beautiful, Linda. Your practice sounds lovely. xo
it is a very internal thing, linda. glad you play along in your own way. i’m grateful for YOU!
i miss fuji 160s. sigh
Meghan, I love this post. It’s both the big things and little things that I am grateful for and your images reflect that too.
You had me at flare…. xoxo
What beautiful phtos, full of light and joy. It is so difficult in these november-days (cold, grey, dark) to find grateful things and pictures. Your post is a big inspiration for me. Thank you Meghan <3
