I hope you can find yourself a festive spot, or somewhere warm and cozy, to sip something toasty, unchill those bones, and enjoy some film photography today. I’ll kick things off for you here with some of my own stuff, and then you must visit our Flickr pool.
I recently visited Seattle and now think it should be the first of an annual tradition around the holidays, that is how charmed I was by Oddfellows Cafe and the Pike Place Market. Tell us in the comments about your annual holiday traditions, and you’ll be entered in our giveaway for this wonderful photographer pendant made by Maureen of Cottage 960. Each of the Muses will be hosting a Holiday Giveaway. Leave a comment below for a chance to win. Kirstin will announce the winners on December 29th.
Good luck and Happy Holidays!
photos below taken on a yashica fx-2 and developed and scanned at Blue Moon Camera & Machine in Portland, OR.
For a fun comparison if you geek out like I do, check out my digital take on these shots here.
Happy Holidays!

Gorgeous shots! I’m afraid I won’t be doing any film shooting, but my digital camera and I will probably be out and about on Friday!
One of my holiday traditions is watching some favourite Christmas shows on tv: Charlie Brown; the Grinch (the cartoon version); and Christmas Carol (the 1951 version with Alistair Sim)!
Sounds so nice. I love Rudolph and Miracle.
My favorite tradition is driving around looking at Christmas lights. It’s gotten a little trickier with little kids, but I still love it.
I love film so much but haven’t shot much since the summer. I hope to remedy that after Christmas when life slows down a bit!
There’s a neighborhood in my home town that was kinda the “ritzy” side when I was growing up (well stll mostly is, but like “old” money) and every year the entire neighborhood would pick a theme and go all out on the decorations. I still like to drive through there if I make it back over the holidays (and I’ll be there this year!). Lovely post! I went into a funk after the announcement about FP-3000b and where I was shooting my Pola 330 every day, I’m not now. But I miss it and feel the urge to get back into it soon. Even if my film stores get depleted.
I went into the same funk! I feel your pain!!
What a beautiful city and such amazing images! Definitely on my bucket list now…
Love the rich colors, especially in the coffee shop. It’s enough to make me want to go back to Seattle.
Merry Christmas all! Thank you for keeping film alive!
Driving through Candy Cane Lane is an annual family tradition in our neighborhood to enjoy all the lights and decorations as well as getting up suepr early and enjoying opening gifts from Santa in our PJ’s.
Every city—and small towns too, have their holiday charm. I have family in both Seattle WA and Portland OR. My tradition is to see both families on Christmas Day. I start with breakfast and gift opening at one location and then get on I-5 and drive to the other for more gift giving and Christmas dinner. So—Over the river and through the woods, this grandmother is on the GO.
That is so nice to be able to do! Enjoy!
Seattle is one of my favorite cities! Love the festive lights here!
Really gorgeous photos, Cara. You may be happy to hear that my Nikon F100 has been calling my name rather loudly lately. And I have a friend who may pass along a better scanner than the one I have so film may be happening here again soon.
My traditions involve getting through my daughters birthdays right before Christmas and usually right during Chanukah as well, which we also celebrate! We always have the tree up before their birthdays. They wake up to birthday presents under the tree. To me that’s the best part of the holiday season.
I know how cozy it is at your house so your traditions sound amazing. Glad you’ll be shooting your f100 soon.
Beautiful shots Cara! We spend Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with my inlaws. But then my favorite is Christmas Day night with my family again.
Our tradition is just opening our presents from one another on Christmas eve and ones from Santa on Christmas morning. Thanks so much
Our favorite tradition is attending candlelight Christmas Eve services at church. It’s so beautiful when all the lights are extinguished and we sing Silent Night but candlelight!
These are stunning shots! Such amazing light and wonderful captures.
I love Blue Moon Camera! I send all my film there, and when I’m in Portland I always go pick film up, or buy new film just so I can go visit them in person!
My husband and I started a holiday tradition when we were dating (college age and no real home) to drive around the day or two before Christmas and look at all the holiday lights where we lived. We’ve carried on that tradition when our kids were born and we still get the teenagers in the car every year for the past 20 years… sometimes they get us in the car!
I loved this set when you posted digital versions, but oh my, the film ones!
We dig our deep-fryer out of the attic for its once a year spin & make latkes which we give to our neighbors. With Hanukkah so early this year, we couldn’t make that happen on time, but I promised the kids that we’d do it out over the winter break, and we’ve already made good on that one.
And then we have some favorite botanical garden light displays, Longwood Gardens is we go visiting for the holidays or Brookside Gardens if we stay home.
just absolute gorgeous shots!!!
Beautiful! This is definitely on my list of places to see! Our traditions are closer to home . . . with my in-laws and my own family.
Love the Seattle pics. Dream of making it out there for Christmas with my brother one year. At home, we always get matching jammies on Christmas eve, followed by fun photos and then excited children checking the Santa tracker before heading to bed to try and sleep.
I seem to make a tradition out of procrastinating Christmas shopping. I love driving around looking at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve.
