My husband and I took a trip north about two weeks ago. I had a day entirely to myself to wander, sit, watch, and photograph where and when I wanted without having to worry about making anyone else stop a million times while I messed with my camera(s). Maybe it’s because I am a photographer, but I always notice light or lack there of when I go somewhere new. The weather in Tacoma, WA, totally threw me for a loop. It was raining and grey almost the entire weekend. And because we were further north then at home Reno, the sun wasn’t rising until well after 7am and setting just before 5pm.
But here’s the thing, I made myself get out and shoot. AND shoot with a camera I have been having significant issues focusing with as well as having subjects develop in low light situations. What I managed were a few images that I actually really love. The blues fit the atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest so well.
Moody and blue.
The other awesome part about this trip? I got to meet fellow Muse, Cara! What a treat to spend the entire afternoon dorking out about cameras, instagram and film.
Keep looking for the light- Vanessa
This is brilliant, Vanessa – I love how you turned the lack of light to your advantage and got some gorgeous images out of it.
When it comes to noticing the presence or absence of light, I’d say it’s the mark of a good photographer, whether new or old in the trade 🙂
thank you Jenny!
I live north of Seattle, and believe me we know about the lack of light. In winter sometimes the landscape is beautiful. Low contrast has to be a friend to you. Some years I have gotten cranky when the leaves begin to leaf. I never thought of a blue cast.
I think it may have been that I was on the water’s edge or maybe the fuji color film has a tint of blue to it? Not sure, but these definitely came out moody to me.
And the peace in these images… Winter calm. So very pretty.
Thank you !
Yayyyyyy!
Just wish the one I took of you would have came out…
Great pictures that completely depict the lack of light and bravo on going out anyways. I always have a hard time picking up my camera when the days are so overcast you feel you can touch the sky. You’re inspiring me to push myself outside my comfort zone (light) and go out even if the day looks dreary.
Xx
That is wonderful! Please share with is when you are ready! I would love to see the results.
Gah! SO good!
