Let me preface all of this by saying that being in an MFA program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. However, along with all of the wonderful things I am experiencing, there has also come the issue of me finding myself (quite often) in a state of tunnel vision. Between teaching/working/researching/making photos, I often tend to find what is “working” for me in terms of photography, and work on it…ad nauseum. I’m trying to break myself of this habit, because I do have a tendency to burn out and get bored, so I have recently given myself license to aimlessly play. No worrying about the word “thesis” lingering on the horizon, and no worrying about the word “failure” in the back of my mind.

Actually, I am all about failures these days! My theory is that, if I’m not failing, I’m not risking anything.

I have dusted off the Holga, and have really been enjoying it.

Double exposing my film, obviously, has been a source of fun for me lately.

I am on a “I have always wanted to try (insert camera/film/process here) so I’m going to do it now” kick. I have always wanted to experiment with expired color film, so I did:

Expired Kodak Gold 400

Expired (2005) Konica 35mm

I’m trying new framing and new film galore. They can’t all be winners, but I do love the grain and colors of Agfa Vista:

I’m also not limiting myself to color.

The long and short of it is that I have been thoroughly enjoying photography lately! I am feeling a lot of the same excitement that I felt when I first started out with photography.
