Filling the frame with bright colours, movement, sunshine and smiles, Xanthe‘s work centres around family life and adventures…
A wide variety of projects keep her photography and film business busy. From guiding and inspiring others through her online courses to her relaxed photo session reportage – capturing everyday moments and cataloging these memories is her passion.
Xanthe is an Instagram fan – you’ll find her there daily – mooching around London capturing the colourful details or urban delights and sharing snippets of family life, or exploring the outdoors with her love of camping, nature and good times around the campfire.
Each photo taken holds a little story. It’s the key to a memory. An example of what you were doing, or what you were feeling at that moment. You might take the photo to remember something, or over time a photo taken will be the trigger to that memory.
I photograph details of my life, the people I know & love and the places I go… all in the hope that in 1 year, 5 years or 10 years from now, I can browse through my images and be transported right back to that time and have the feelings wash over me.
As a big believer in printing my photos, there are frames on the wall, photos scattered around our home or put into boxes – I place random images altogether creating my own Time Capsule.
I find joy holding a photo in my hands, rather than searching through files & folders on a hard drive.
Do you print your images regularly?
I hope so, but if you’ve found yourself trapped with stacks of images locked on your devices. . .will you consider setting them free?
Upload to the many wonderful online places to print, or visit your local lab. . .I know there’s often debate about the quality of printed images and do the colours look right etc…
In years to come, none of that will matter. I know this to be true, as I’m currently shifting through 1000s of my printed images from last 25 years, for a big birthday project coming up. The quality of the image or even the composition don’t seem to matter to me. . .it’s the story inside the frame and the memories I’m soaking up.
I challenge you to print your favourite images from the last month or so. . .I know you’ve got at least one, but probably heaps more. Put one in a frame or sit some on a windowsill or mantle place. You could tuck a chosen photo away in an album or your notebook. Or even begin a box of images just like my Time Capsule boxes.
You be pleased you did. Not just today, but in years to come.
If you like the idea of shooting photos and then printing them. . .my latest e-course is all about that. There’ll be photo projects and prompts to inspire you to shoot your stories and then encouragement to print your images to put into your own Tangible Time Capsule.
And if you’d like to win a place in my new TANGIBLE time capsules course with photo prompts and encouragement to print your images, just leave a comment telling me all about a favourite photo you’ve shot recently. A winner will be picked at random on the 17th of March.
• This giveaway is now closed and the winner is Anne Berit. Thank you all for your lovely comments.
My 8 year old son is working hard on learning to ride his bike. I recently got a shot of him riding his bike with the sun behind him and long shadows in front of him. Thanks for the chance to win!
Candid images of my kids capturing expressions that will disappear with age. Priceless
My favourite photo is of my 1 yr old pushing my 3 yr old in the little tykes car. The look if joy is priceless and totally captures their relationship 😉
So lovely to see you here, Xanthe! I love prints, but don’t make them nearly often enough.
A recent favorite – wonder in the eyes of my two kiddos the first time they took in theme park lights on our recent trip.
I almost never print. It’s terrible. My last prints for myself were so long ago I couldn’t even tell you my favorite. In the meantime, polaroid photos have been filling that void. My favorite recent one is of a friend.
Thanks for having me here… x.
Printing more, making books is definitely on my list to do more of. One major book per year is the goal and rotating photos around the house too. My favorite at the moment is of fruit slices on a windowsill with the morning light pouring through them.
I just made the comment two days ago, to my friend I wanted to get a bunch of small prints made from some recent shots I’ve done! I think I need to get on it! I’ve been shooting a lot of film lately and I have some images from the last roll of my daughter with her sunglasses and hair flying in the sun, that I love. I’ve also been shooting my husband riding our horses too which I’d love to update in prints for my shelf. Such a great reminder to enjoy them! Thanks!
You always inspire me Xanthe, I adore your beautiful, colorful spirit! So good to see you here today!! xo
I try to keep up with the prints, I’m a huge fan of photo books! I try to do one every few months of my ever changing family.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to bring my big camera along for our walk in the woods (finally a day without moist weather!). So glad I did! And even though my kid is almost 11 yrs old now and not a big fan of getting his photo taken any more I snapped a few that I truly love.
Thanks for the giveaway – and all the inspiration through instagram lately – Xanthe!
One thing that forces me to print at least a little bit is creating a calendar every year. I make sure the calender contains photos of my family and kids in addition to my usual nature photos–I cut some out at the end of the month and keep them. I have a few of the ones from last year’s calendar hanging on a string in my office. These days I am not taking enough photos of my family and I need to try to fix that!
My favorite photo happened on our daily sunset walk. David and Shadow trekked up a hill and I wanted to catch their silhouette. The captures turned out beautifully. A happy accident in the captures. At the bottom right corner is Shadow’s reflection from the sun flare and lens. Must’ve been because I was at the bottom of the hill shooting upwards.
I love how you wrote that lab colors, etc not matching what we see won’t matter in the scheme of it all. A reason I wasn’t printing. Now, I surely will.
Boxes, I love this idea. I am printing more, and sometimes even using Wallgreens. Just get them off the computer and in my hands!
